Racines à souhaits

Unveiling of the installation by Aude Franjou, a French artist
Aude Franjou sculpts linen and hemp to create structures inspired by trees, roots and bulbs—“plant life factories,” as she likes to call them. In 2007, the artist wrote that the work enclosed in its fibres hopes she wished to see tied to those of viewers. To echo Ms. Franjou’s wishes, the public will be invited to write and read wishes inspired by Earth Day. A cocktail will be served, followed by the screening of the films of the Portneuf Festival of Films on the Environment at 7 p.m.

Confections

Collective exhibition in visual arts curated by Pascale Beaudet
For the curator, the word lin (“flax”, “linen”) calls to mind, first of all, a luxurious and sensuous fabric, and, as a result, her choices reflect a penchant for artists who work with fabric. The exhibition contains recycled clothing items, articles created by artists without necessarily intending them to be worn, and objects “made” with fabric. All the works stimulate reflection on garments and the bodies that wear them.

Lieux de mémoire

Collective exhibition in crafts curated by Denis Longchamps
The exhibition presented in the mill, a heritage site, brings together 12 works that are also places of memory, as when the use of a traditional technique ensures the transmission of know-how or when an age-old material—flax—evokes the fabric we still weave today and the intimate memories we each associate with it. New sources of memory to be discovered...

Re-appropriation

Collective exhibition in fashion and design curated by Stéphane Le Duc.
Bearing a message of hope, a new generation of artists offer us fresh interpretations of the magnificent fabric. The exposition’s 21 works of art express a renewed relationship with this traditional fabric—a reacquisition of a bit of humanity’s rich heritage that offers us a glimmer of hope for a better world.

Divested of its shafts, millstones and wings, the windmill lets its sails tumble like a waterfall. It changes states by sliding and expanding. Then, through a happy marriage with the river, its train melts in the water producing a billowing cloud of light fabrics that spread through the marine landscape.
